On Thursday, 18 July 2019, the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) and the Politehnica University of Bucharest (UPB) celebrated 50 years since humankind first stepped on the Moon by unveiling a plaque dedicated to the Apollo 11 mission. The event took place at the Politehnica University of Bucharest, on the Central Library Square, in the presence of representatives from the Romanian Government, the diplomatic corps, the research and academic community, Romanian industry and civil society.
Between 27 – 28 June 2019, the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) and the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) organised the 8th IAA Conference on Space Systems as Critical Infrastructures. The event took place in Mamaia, Romania. This year's topic was "From kilograms to kilobytes, from substance to information, from matter to structure".
On 17 June, on behalf of the Romanian space agency (ROSA), Dr. Phys. Marius-Ioan Piso signed a joint declaration of interest for the formal launch of the activities of the Space Climate Observatory, during an official ceremony at the Paris Air Show. 24 other space agencies and four international organisations signed The Space Climate Observatory declaration in the presence of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The President of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA), Dr. Phys. Marius-Ioan Piso, is leading the Delegation of Romania at the 62nd session of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), which is taking place in Vienna, Austria, between 12 – 21 June 2019.
Gathered on 28 May 2019 in Brussels, the ministers responsible for space issues from the European Union (EU) and the European Space Agency (ESA) member states adopted the resolution „Space as an Enabler”. The EU-ESA Space Council, the main instrument for the harmonisation of space policies in Europe, gathered for the first time in the last eight years at Romania’s own initiative. Ministers responsible for space issues from the European countries participated at the reunion, with Romania being represented by the Minister for Research and Innovation, Professor Nicolae Hurduc and the President of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA), Dr. Phys. Marius-Ioan Piso.
