Projects for the Mitigation of COVID-19 Pandemic

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) together with the Interinstitutional Security R&D and Innovation Group (GI-CDIS), and representatives of the Ministry of Health have launched a set of projects, aimed at obtaining quick results, to assist the population and the relevant bodies to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objectives of the projects have been identified based on RDI competences and capacities of the national R&D institutions and industry. The proposals were requested by the Ministry of Education and Research and they will be fast-tracked through contracting and financing by UEFISCDI, in order to ensure efficacy.

The topics focus on identifying and offering solutions for crisis monitoring and management, the development of protection systems, the development of decontamination systems, as well as the provision of solutions for prevention, diagnostic and treatment for the first-response personnel and the general population. The deadlines for achieving and providing the first results are within 30 days.

The topics will be financed under the 2015-2020 PNCDI III framework, Program 2 - Increasing the competitiveness of the Romanian economy through research, development and innovation, Subprogram 2.1 - Competitiveness through research, development and innovation.

The GI-CDIS is made up of representatives of the Ministry of Education and Research, the Romanian Space Agency, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and of the other institutions from the national security and defence system.

Established by the Government Decision no. 1574/2004 on the organization and functioning of the Interministerial Security R&D and Innovation Group and regulated by provisions of Government Decision no. 750/2005 regarding the constitution of the permanent inter-ministerial councils, with the subsequent changes and additions, the GI-CDIS is currently functioning on the basis of the Protocol regarding the cooperation between ministries and public administration institutions in Romania in order to support security research, development and innovation. ROSA is acting as general secretary of the group.
