Winners of the 2018 Exo-RO National Rover Competition

on 19 December 2018

The jury of the 2018 Exo-RO National Rover Competition has selected this year’s winners out of the teams of high school students that were selectedfor the finals.

The competition was organised by the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA), in synergy with the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) Romania and the local partners The West University of Timisoara, Banat IT and Aquapic Educational Center, with the support of BRD, Smithfield, STPT and A.S.K.TIM.

The technical inspection of the rovers took place during the first day. The following day, all ten teams participated in the field test. The rovers were controlled from the distance with the help of onboard video cameras, with the teams having no direct visual contact with the rover.

The final presentations of the collected data and the awards ceremony took place on Saturday, 1 December 2018.

The Exo-RO National Rover Competition is in its third edition. The scenario and location are changed every year, and students have to respond to new challenges. The first edition took place within the framework of the Muddy Volcanos Landscape in Buzau County, and the following edition took place in the underground, at the TarguOcna salt mine in Bacau County. This year, the basin of the former water plant in Timisoara, with shallow waters, became the unknown aquatic world of the "Aquapic" planet.
