Call for the educational community inputs for the next human outpost in space

on 11 October 2017

The partner agencies of the International Space Station (ISS) are currently studying the concept of a human habitable outpost near the Moon. Deep Space Getaway would be the next step of human space exploration beyond the low-Earth orbiting ISS.

In this context, the ESA Education Office, in coordination with the ESA Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Robotic Exploration, is launching a call for inputs on how the Deep Space Gateway platform could best be used also for educational purposes. The deadline for submitting ideas is 13 November 2017.

The call is addressed to university professors, groups of university students and educational professionals who are encouraged to present ideas and concepts to use the outpost for educating students in a manner that accounts for long term durability, sustainability and benefit to the largest possible number of students.

The inputs of the educational community should be submitted by filling in this online questionnaire. Inputs will be analysed during a dedicated workshop taking place at ESTEC (ESA’s establishment in the Netherlands) early December this year.

More details about the educational call can be found here.

In parallel, ESA has launched a call for ideas also for the European scientific community to suggest which type of research could be performed on the outpost. More details can be found here.
