The upgrade will also provide the reference platform for all applicable building block activities. Reconfiguration Mechanisms, correct use of Safe Guard Memory, fault coverage, BIT are only some of the topics that the availability of a real Test Bed can allow to investigate and validate.

This activity aims at developing theoretical and experimental knowledge on throw-nets for grasping orbital debris. The intended final result is a validated model of how a net behaves in the capture operation, accounting for all theon orbit environmental and system design parameters. This activity shall: 1) Elaborate detailed system requirements for the net system. Starting from a list of userrequirements provided by the Agency, the activity shall produce a complete set of requirements specifying the net system and the validation to be performed. 2) Develop a mathematical model of the net and the interdependence of the various system design parameters(e.g. cable dynamic parameters, knot type, mesh size, size of flying masses, closing mechanism), and on orbit environmental parameters (e.g. distance of throw, speed of throw). 3) Realise a parametric simulator of the capture operation. 4) Identify and experimentally characterise materials and assembly technology for the net. 5) Design a parabolic flight test campaign, related test equipment and measurement instrumentation/techniques. The campaign shall envisage different test items/test so that all parameters can be investigated with at least 2 data points. 6) Procure/manufacture integrate and validate test equipment on ground. 7) Perform the test with a representative sample of net and launcher specimens to cover the principal design parameters and validate the mathematical model. 8) Perform a mathematically rigorous validation of the model against the test results. The study will be focused on the developing of 5A 1200V Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky diode in hermetic package with the main goalto characterize the performances of the devices in terms of switching capability, reliability of the technology and main characterization of static and dynamic parameters as a function of temperatures as well as to characterize the thermal impedance and resistanceof the proposed package solution. The device will also be characterized the tolerance of the device to Total Ionizing Dose (TID) and proton fluence in order to evaluate their potential future application in space missions. The goal is having a device whose electrical characteristics are enveloping the performances of the devices already available on the market: – Zero Reverse Recovery Current – Zero Forward Recovery Voltage – Temperature independent switching behaviour – Low figure of merit QC/IF where QC is the totalcapacitive charge (goal is QC<20nC) – Package in TO-257 or LCC style As one of the main feature of SiC compound is the high thermalconductivity (around twice the Si one) the maximum operating junction temperature and consequently the maximum power density is expected higher with respect the Si devices.

The reliability of the developed diodes should as well be assessed in this study establishing a limit for the junction temperature for reliable operation as well as the thermal properties of the package At the present stage, the SiC Schottky devices have been already commercialized for mainly automotive market, but the developing and evaluation of anhermetic 1200V SiC Schottky diodes would be appealing for TWTA and other space voltage space application due to the demonstrated performances of the devices on the market. The study will be organized with the following work structure:
-Phase 1: critical analysisofthe technical requirements, compliance matrix of goal values for the main key parameters
-Phase 2: trade-off analysis of the main design structure and topology with relevant simulation
-Phase 3: manufacturing processes definition and main trade-off analysis, first issue of draft Process Identification Document (PID), first run in foundry
-Phase 4: Electrical characterization and stability verification of first run in foundry and analysis of the results
-Phase 5: Review of the manufacturing processes implementing anycorrective actions come from the previous phase, second issue of PID and second run in foundry
-Phase 6: Definition of the electrical and thermal resistance/impedance characterization, reliability assessment and radiation test program. For the overall test program the sample size should be at least 100 devices.

Ocean Surface Currents (OSC) are the coherent horizontal and vertical movement of surface ocean water (over a specific depth regime) with a given velocity and an upper boundary in contact with the atmosphere that persist over a geographical region and time period. The user portfolio for OSC measurements is extensive and includes: ship routing, offshore operations, ports and harbours, maritime pollution, ice forecasting, maritime search and rescue, offshore renewable energy, wave forecasting, operational oceanography, weather forecasting, sailing, navigation, hydrographic offices and navigation, fisheries, aquaculture, marine infrastructure design, environmental protection, oceanography and climate amongst others. OSC can be derived from space using a variety of techniques including altimetry, gravimetry, SAR radial Doppler, optical (VIS and TIR) feature tracking, passive microwave measurements, ice movement,inferred from scatterometry, and sun-glitter patterns. Sparse in-situ measurements including drifting and moored buoys, buoys, coastal HF-RADAR installations, ARGO floats, and ship measurements complement satellite measurements. Not all of these techniques have reached full maturity: each measurement technique has specific characteristics (e.g., resolution, coverage, accuracy, depth integration etc) that are complementary and there is scope for development of enhanced novel products, particularly through data merging and synergy.

The ESA Data User Element (DUE) is a programmatic component of the Earth Observation Envelope Programme (EOEP) with a mission to encourage long-term relationships between the user communities and Earth Observation. Against this background, the work-programme of the GlobCurrent project is intended to improve the uptake of satellite-derived OSC data by the scientific, operational and commercial user community. GlobCurrent includes the following activities: 1. Develop a framework (inter-comparison and trade-off analysis of algorithms and methodology) to use two-dimensional surface manifestations of OSC to infer the three-dimensional surface ocean (<50-100m) circulation through data-driven merging and synergy. A critical aspect will focus on understanding the information content of each technique in terms of OSC and how complementary data can be combined in the most optimal manner in a data-driven framework to support modelling. 2. Provision and maintenance of a uniform, harmonised, quality controlled, multi-sensor set of satellite OSC data and ancillary information (L2/L3), in a common format, with consistent characterisation of errors and biases. 3. Inter-comparison of OSC data with colocated in-situ measurements, ocean model data and cross characterisation between different satellite datastreams to establish product error and bias methodologies/information (uncertainty). 4. Provision and maintenance of merged (L4-synergy) OSC products (data driven) based on synergy between different satellite and in situ data at local, regional and global scales for user-driven applications including uncertainty estimation for each grid point. 5. Implementation of an integrated set of user-driven demonstrators based on satellite OSC data, and the operation and maintenance of these demonstrators for a finite period, to help the global user community make full use of satellite OSC data, to facilitate scientific, operational and commercial exploitation. 6. Development and maintenance of a GlobCurrent web portal providing a single point of reference for satellite and in situ OSC data together with associated documentation, search and data access, OSC community information, data calibration and validation information.

The Contractor shall set up a scheme of the bus routes to each international school and shall deliver the service with a modern and reliable fleet of vehicles, appropriate for the number of children. ESA-ESTEC is looking for a cost efficient model for this service. The bidders are challenged to identify a cost efficient model for the service, which shows a flexibility, for instance in bus routes, number of starting/pick-up points, etc.

A completely closed life support system today cannot be considered without food production and waste recycling (i.e. food production systems have in average an efficiency of 60%, the rest being waste). Current nutrition requirements are aiming at a very accurate food quality (i.e. minerals content, carbohydrates content, amino-acids profile, fatty acids profile). Yet bed rests have demonstrated that existing knowledge and tools allowed limited prediction of meal nutritional composition and subsequently food quality. As a matter of fact, the discrepancy between prediction and actual food nutritional content was mainly due to the vegetal (i.e. plants) elements. In a general manner, the complete food production and preparation chain, which starts with the plant seed and ends with the ready-to-eat meal, impacts the food quality at several stages (i.e. plant growth conditions, harvest, storage, processing, cooking, etc.). However, this impact is today poorly understood or controlled. Moreover, modelling of food production systems are today limited to very specific and independent plant metabolisms (C and N uptake, light utilisation, etc.) but almost no knowledge exist at the overall plant level. Consequently a strong effort of plant and food characterisation is now necessary for a better understanding and control of the complete MELiSSA loop.
