The direct sampling of 8 GHz signals will allow all the further signal processing to be conducted in the digital domain, thus implementing a Software Defined Radio (SDR) approach.The sampling of 8 GHz signals will also allow sampling at 2 Ghz as a by-product. Ka-band (32 Ghz) and K-band (26 GHz) will still be converted to 8 GHz using a single fixed frequency conversion before RF sampling. X-band sampling will allow TTC for earth observation, science in deep space and near earth, and exploration missions in S- or X-band. The Earth Observation wideband payload data sampling (8.025-8.400 GHz) will be included.The output of this activity will be a proofof concept of X-band sampling through validation at breadboard level.Potential technologies are photonic time stretch pre-processorfollowed by multi Giga Sample Per Second (GSpS) Analog to Digital converter.
