Define a reference architecture for the acquisition of internet of things datastreams into ESA science repositories, implementing a platform that enables seamless integration and analysis of crowdsourced-data for citizen science. Currently, large-scale infrastructures are custom-designed as dedicated detectors in order to tackle multiple scientific use cases. Recent advances in technology have contributed to the deployment of a de-facto large detector array based on commodity hardware: smart devicesin everybody’s pockets. These devices are fitted with an increasing number of sensors able to collect a variety of measurements andprovide improved performance and capabilities. The only missing step is to build the logic and necessary infrastructure to collect and process such a variety of data. The main objective of this activity is to assess and develop the required technologies, and thenimplement and validate a prototype digital platform, to exploit, in combination with scientific data, the new observing capabilitiesoffered by distributed sensors and ubiquitous mobile devices, conforming the Internet of Things (IoT) crowdsourcing arena. Such developed platforms shall enable data fusion and analytics capabilities (discovery of hidden patterns in very large amount of data, atmultiple scales in space and time, identification of causal relationships, prediction of future patterns, etc.) Based on sensors’ data (sensors’ networks, mobile devices, drones, etc.) Combined with ESA datasets (from different domains like e.g. Science, Earth Observation, GNSS, etc.) And scientific models. The prototype shall permit to exploit the new and powerful monitoring opportunities offered by Crowd-Sourcing (CS), where citizens Become “distributed observatories” (this is also known as Citizen Science), and new emerging computing model (from clouds to edge computing and fog computing). Currently, the lack of an infrastructure able to close the gap between IoT and ESA science repositories worlds prevents further development of this concept. The activity encompasses the following tasks:- Assessment of IoT datastream acquisition architectures (cloud, edge and fog computing) to fulfil demanding requirements for distributed processing derived from the IoT architecture- Assessment of technologies and standards in the area of IoT discoveryand data transfer (Hypercat, etc.)- Definition and design of extensions to support integration of IoT into existing Science, NAVand EO data processing systems- Development of prototype components demonstrating the integration of IoT with Science, NAV and EO data
