The increasing presence of space debris poses major threats to current and future satellite missions, especially to those operatingin Low Earth Orbits (LEO). While Large Satellite Integrators are increasingly aware of the impact of space debris mitigation regulations on the spacecraft design, it is found that little awareness is present among the payload manufacturers on such topic. The aimof this activity is to critically investigate the impact of design solutions, material selection, mounting configuration and manufacturing techniques on the demiseability of optical payloads carried by satellites flying in LEO.
