SPICA, the Space Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics, is a mid and far-infrared space observatory with a large actively cooled telescope. SPICA is one of the M5 candidate missions in the Science Programme. It is proposed as an ESA-led mission with a substantial JAXA contribution. The overall objective of the Phase A SPICA Telescope Assembly study is to achieve critical progress towards the definition of the telescope, including relevant interfaces, and define a preliminary development and verification plan, including cost estimates.
