ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-10991
Open Date: 21/06/2022 14:36 CEST
Closing Date: 16/08/2022 13:00 CEST
Presently spacecraft designers and engineers use isolated, monolithic systems for doing space environment and effects analysis. Tools such as SPENVIS (web-based) and OMERE (local application) provide a user-friendly way to access models and tools and are widely used by experts. However, these tools are used via graphical user interfaces which precludes their use in many use cases. The user community have increasing need to access these capabilities in an automated, programmatic way allowing more complex tools and systems to be built up from these foundation services. The sharing of projects and results would also be more efficient between industry and ESA by ensuring that any analyses are not re-run by different experts introducing errors and inconsistencies into the process. Another issue facing users of such systems is model discovery and interoperability. It is not always clear if certain models can use the outputs from other models, so errors occur in the misinterpretation of what models expect as inputs and what they produce. A new baseline API has been introduced called Network of Models (NoM) which can be installed locally or called remotely. This allows a more robust interface to the modes and facilitates the direct ingestion of results into the expert’s python development environment. The underlying models and tools presently included in SPENVIS and OMERE will be implemented and the front-end of existing tools shall still be used for continuity for experts. This development shall replace the model and tool interface to enable end-to-end digitalisation of the design process in the space environment domain (from Phase 0 to launch). The developed software shall also enable interfacing to more advanced tools used at later phases of projects such as ESABASE-2 (micro-particles), GRAS (radiation) and SPIS (spacecraft charging).Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs). For additional information please go to this link.
