Priority 2The objective of this activity is to design and develop a software tool to: (1) assess the inter-system interference among NGSO and GSO satellite networks (NGSO to/from GSO and NGSO to/from NGSO); (2) devise technologies and techniques for making coexistence of NGSO and GSO satellite networks possible and to assess their effectiveness; and (3) assess whether multiple NGSO broadband networks can coexist in the same frequency band.Targeted Improvements: To demonstrate that the coexistence of NGSO and GSO satellite networks is possible and thus help future telecommunication constellations to become a reality.Description:In 2014 and 2015 big LEO constellations have been gaining momentum. Future constellations are closer to reality more than ever. However, some GEO operators have expressed concern about whether LEO constellations and traditional GEO systems can coexist. As a matter of fact, GEO operators claim that LEO constellations cannot operate without compromising the service of GSO systems. On the other hand, some NGSO operators claim that there are techniques which could enable a coexistence of both systems. As of today, no definitive evidence supporting either position exists. Moreover, no analysis is available regarding whether two or more constellations could coexist. In any case, it is clear that interference management among future NGSO and GSO systems is necessary for a successful coordination process which shall be supported by a suitable tool. This activity aims at designing and developing such tool and assess and characterise the interference among NGSO and GSO networks (NGSO to/from GSO and NGSO to/from NGSO). Based on the results, the activity will proposetechniques and technologies to mitigate such interference and enable coexistence.Priority 2 activities will only be initiated on the explicit request of at least one delegation.
