Argentina, through the Comision Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE), is developing an L-band SAR mission with a constellation of two LEO spacecraft in a Sun-synchronous dusk-dawn orbit. The planned launcher, a Falcon-9, has an excess capacity and CONAE has offered to ESA the possibility to use this excess of capacity. In this context, ESA proposed a bistatic extension of SAOCOM’s SAR sensing by means of a receive-only Companion Satellite (provisionally called SAOCOM-CS) flying in formation with SAOCOM, which would act as an illuminator. The present activity addresses the development of Engineering Qualification Models of the Deployment Mechanism(DEM) and the Hold-Down and Release Mechansims (HRMs) used keep the deployable L-band antenna panels in stowed configuration and todeploy them once in flight. The present activity also address the qualification of the DEM and HRM’s for the SAOCOM-CS environment.
