Update Reason: Loaded a new Clarification(English version)

This activity aims to replace the liquid electrolyte in Lithium batteries with a solid one in order to eliminate the risk of battery fire/explosion that may be caused by chemical reactions with liquid electrolyte. In addition, this new battery design with solid electrolyte can lead to an increase of the specific energy of lithium cells compared to current space technologies. The requirement of demisability will be taken into account since the beginning of the designDifferent technologies will be investigated by using numerical models coupled with laboratory data on materials in order to develop all solid-state batteries with clean space perspective. Safe and low cost materials and battery configurations will be considered to achieve cell performances equivalent or better than today’s state of the art batteries.Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs). For additional information please go to EMITS news “Industrial Policy measures for non-primes, SMEs and RD entities in ESA programmes”.
