The objective of this activity is to trade-off antenna architecture, design a radiometer antenna with high spatial resolution to support coastal zone altimetry measurements. The current radiometer antennas used for ocean altimetry and typically operating in K/Ka-band are known to be not enough accurate for coastal zones due to their modest spatial resolution in along-track. The activity will aim at designing a single reflector based radiometer antenna with high spatial resolution in along-track, by operating several frequencies from microwave to millimetre wave band. The radiometer is expected to operate at the following frequencies are 18.7, 23.6, 31.4, 89, 150(166), 183 GHz. A trade off analysis shall be performed to investigate antenna solutions based on single or multiple multi-frequency feeds with low loss reflector and possibly low loss FSS or reflectarray. The results of the TRP study “Study on future microwave radiometers for atmospheric correction of radar altimeters on coastal regions” shall be used as inputs for this current TRPstudy. The activity will consist in: – establishing state of art survey and requirements – performing trade off analysis and selecting one baseline & backup solutions. – designing and analysing the selected solution – establishing a roadmap and a development planfor the critical elements of the antenna.
