Last Update Date: 20/07/2018
Update Reason: Tender issue

The objective of the activity is to design, manufacture and test a Q-/V-band antenna to be embarked on civilian aviationfleets in order to increase the data rate available for the end users.Targeted Improvements:Enabling European technology development of a Q/V band antenna with smaller SWaP (size, weight and power), lower profile and drag than the current Ka band solutions.Description:The use of higher frequencies is becoming necessary to cope with the increased demand for bandwidth resources in order to offer end users with higher data rates and growing Internet penetration rate. All-time connectivity is also expected when traveling by airplane and this has become a distinguishing service offer for airlines. Today’s available technologies for aeronautical applications to alarge extend cover the use of Ka-band. Q and V bands are now being considered to increase the available bandwidth and take advantageof the improved link budgets in clear sky conditions using the same antenna size and power.Hence in this activity a concept for aQ/V band antenna shall be developed to be embarked on an airplane. Both mechanical and steerable concepts shall be considered that can fulfil ITU regulations. A prototype of the Q/V band antenna shall be designed, manufactured and tested.Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs).
