The Austrian ASAP programme recently funded national Phase A activities to study cubesat missions with IOD objectives. After the first promising round of studies, the Austrian delegation is ready to cover a Phase B study for a Cubesat mission to be assigned to anAustrian-led consortium.Depending on the outcome of the study and following the interest of the Austrian Delegation, ESA may offerthe possibility to implement the full mission (Phase C/D/E). The proposals have to be already matured to Phase A level. The design of an IOD mission usually allows multiple technologies to be demonstrated synergistically in one mission. Any technologies proposed for IOD will have to be already matured to TRL 5 as minimum.International cooperation will be evaluated and detailed in the course of the study, keeping Austrian companies/institutes as key players. In this context, complementary technology payloads from non-Austrian entities will be identified and evaluated with respect to accommodation feasibility within the available spare on-board resources. The study will detail the nominal IOD mission lifetime and operational costs linked to it. The optional extended lifetime willbe detailed as well, being clear what added value is expected from the extended operations. The outcome of the study will comprise a technical baseline reviewed by ESA, a detailed development plan and schedule, and a detailed budget estimation that be comprehensive of Space and Ground Segment development, AIT, Launch and Operations costs. The current study will cover up to the system PDR.After successful outcome of the Phase B study, ESA intends to present to the delegations the proposal for a full Cubesat IOD mission implementation. After the expression of interest of the involved delegation, the full mission will be implemented with the Austrian and international partners identified in the Phase B study.
