This study shall analyse new techniques, algorithmic approaches, languages and planning frameworks for ESTRACK allocation planning. Global optimisation techniques and expected to bring a benefit, such that the ESTRACK network can be utilised by space missions ina really optimal way. The study shall do research and analysis for available and suitable planning and optimisation techniques applicable the context of ESTRACK allocation planning. The optimisation shall be balanced with operational constraints, which are often contradicting optimisation to some extent. Operational constrains are often targeted at robustness or address simply the point that underlying processes are not able to cope with frequent changes. Another topic shall be the analysis of languages for planning systems. These languages shall allow users of a system implementing the study results to formulate planning goals and constraints in an efficient and straight forward way. This sort of flexibility is needed, as it often not possible to capture all possible goals and constraints at system design time. Finally the study shall produce a prototype to prove the concepts. In order to allow a sort of ‘benchmarking’, the prototype shall process the same inputs as the current ESTRACK allocation.
