To characterise the performances of a Miniaturized Heterodyne Spectrometer for measuring Earth upper atmosphere phenomena gases. The concept of the Spatial Heterodyne Spectrometer (SHS) is known since 1958, but its manufacturability was out of reach until recentdevelopments in optical materials, processes and metrology. A Spatial Heterodyne Spectrometer has the advantage of reaching extraordinary spectral resolutions (10^3 – 10^8) with a very compact optical layout. Based on literature, a conceptual design of a miniaturized SHS can be considered for the measurement of specific components of the atmosphere and wind velocity. Preliminary analyses haveshown that the required tolerances are tight, but achievable within the current state of the art of optical manufacturing. This activity aims to verify that an SHS can be manufactured with the required accuracy to perform measurements of temperature, wind velocity and of trace gases of Earth atmosphere. The activity encompasses the following tasks : 1.Detailed Design of the OptomechanicalAssembly of the miniaturized SHS2.Design of the Telescope, including the baffle3.Manufacturing of the breadboard of the SHS4.Perform a test campaign to characterise the SHS concept and its performances. The output of the activity is the breadboard of the Miniaturized Heterodyne Spectrometer and its test analysis report.
