This study aims at assessing the suitability of micro and nano-encapsulation technological concepts relevant to Health and Life Support (HLS) for space applications and providing a roadmap for the development of technological concepts, based on existing knowledgeand technologies, identifying gaps to be filled in, with possible synergies for terrestrial applications. While the needs are well identified in terms of HLS, technologies to meet such needs are evolving every day. Yet micro and nano encapsulation based technologies have not been assessed to bring a solution to some of different problems (countermeasures, hygiene, wastes, food tastes). It is expected that the study will allow ESA to identify domains and concepts where ESA can play a role (i.e. supporting paths not coveredby non-space industry).
