The aim of this activity is the detailed design, development and testing of a Large Deployable Reflector (LDR) suitable to demonstrate the required TRL for two Copernicus High Priority Candidate Missions (HPCM), namely the Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer (CIMR) mission and the ROSE-L (Radar Observing System for Europe at L-band) mission, currently studied at phase A/B1 level, and to enable future EO missions requiring such technology. The activity will start with a consolidation of the initial requirements for theLDR for the above-mentioned missions and of the related technology roadmap. From the requirements, designs shall be produced, demonstrating that the developed technology can meet the most stringent requirements from each of the missions. Through breadboarding, all critical mechanical and electrical elements of the LDR shall be built and tested to verify the main functions and materials parameters related to the environment as well as the qualification of the associated manufacturing processes. A detailed design and analysis of the LDR in accordance to the requirements shall be evolved, followed by the manufacturing of the full LDR engineering model, aimed to maximise the advances in technological readiness. The engineering mode shall be tested to verify the manufacturing accuracy, the electrical and mechanical functions under the relevant environmental conditions.
