The objective of this Kick Start is to analyse the technical and economic feasibility of new services and solutions for production of food from oceans and inland water bodies. Water as Food Resource studies aim to address the need to increase global food volumes taking into account sustainability and safety concerns. The call addresses four key focus areas. The fishing in remote locations focus area investigates solutions for remote fish farms or shrimp vessels. Precision fishing includes solutions to monitor the environment and manage the infrastructure of fish and shellfish farms. The third area is focused on the production of algae for consumption with positive externalities, such as carbon capture. The last area aims to mitigate illegal practices and increase transparency of current and new fishing activities. The services/solutions put forward should use space assets, such as one or more of Earth observation, Satellite Communication, Satellite Navigation, and Satellite AIS.
