The objective of the activity is to develop an experimental narrow-band satellite system (spacecraft, user terminal and gateway prototype) in the new frequency bands proposed for the WRC2023 (agenda item 1.18). In orbit testing shall validate the suitability of those frequencies for satellite services. Targeted Improvements: Test and enable satellites communication services in the 1690-1710 MHz, 2010-2025 MHz, 3300-3315 MHz and 3385-3400 MHz bands. Description: The World Radio-communication Conference (WRC) 2019, endorseda new Agenda Item (1.18) for 2023 to consider new allocations for narrow-band mobile satellite services. However, existing primary services in the candidate bands (1690-1710 MHz, 2010-2025 MHz, 3300-3315 MHz and 3385-3400 MHz) create interference questioning the suitability of these bands for satellite services. In-orbit experiments are needed to confirm and characterize interference levelsatthese candidate frequencies and the protection needed of the primary services. Hence this activity will develop an experimentalnarrow-band satellite system which will include the spacecraft, a user terminal prototype and a gateway prototype. Narrow-band satellitetechnologies will be developed and tested implementing possible sharing techniques. The experiments will verify the system performance helping to alleviate the current scarcity of frequencies that is seriously hindering the deployment of new narrow-band mobile satellite systems and services such as M2M and IoT.
