ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-10118
Open Date: 21/04/2022 15:37 CEST
Closing Date: 03/06/2022 13:00 CEST
ObjectivesTo assess commonalities of on-board Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) functions interfacing with ground segment algorithms and to prototype common versions for future ESA operated spacecraftDescriptionAOCS on-board interfaces and correspondingflight dynamics ground implementations include functionalities such as algorithms dedicated to guidance, thrust modulation, reactionwheel management, wheel desaturation and articulated unit management common to ESA missions currently flown and under implementation. These algorithms are generally differing currently from one mission to another, mostly because of differences in the industrial layout and backgrounds. The utilisation of future common interface function building blocks in the ground and space segment will allow to make significant gain in terms of development cost and schedule, as well as allowing the benefit of technical progress on thesetechniques to be more systematically shared. Their harmonisation is considered feasible technically. As a first step a handbook will be drafted that is planned to cover the functionalities stated above. In the scope of the proposed study, a contractor, experiencedin the development of multi-mission AOCS interface functions, shall validate in detail and consolidate the proposed harmonised interface functionalities. The proposed study is a step towards consolidating commonality of building blocks in the domain of AOCS functions interfacing with ground segment with the ultimate goal to establish corresponding ECSS standards applicable for ESA operated missions. This activity encompasses the following tasks:- review and, if required, iterate on the proposed common AOCS interface functions.- identification of missions (space and ground segment) that serve as reference for validation of the common interface functions. The selection shall be made in order to “stress” the proposed functions. Therefore the selection shall cover a wide range of missions and differing requirements (e.g. Due to spacecraft geometry, number of thrusters etc.). Different missions may be selected for testing different AOCS functionalities.- analyse and validate whether the specific mission requirements can be fulfilled with theproposed common interfaces for the above stated AOCS architectures- based on identified non-compliances, an improved set of commonAOCS interface functions shall be developed. The study output shall consist of consolidated common interfaces for the mentioned AOCS functionalities. Deliverables of the study are a detailed report on the performed analyses, related tools and a document specifying in detail the consolidated common AOCS interface functions.DeliverablesPrototype, Report
