A need for high power high speed switches has been identified for various altimeter and radar potential EO missions (e.g. Wavemill,CoreH2O,..). Given the targeted specifications the only technology that could meet the stringent requirements is the ferrite switch. However, recent developments based on existing designs have shown that the power handling is a key issue that requires a radically different approach for the design of those power switches. Indeed the design has to be primarily driven by the thermal design rather than the usual microwave performance. The activity shall be organised as follows: – analysis of all suitable ferrite materials, – test of a subset of those materials, – preliminary design of two switches based on different ferrite materials – test of the switches with validation of the thermal models, – selection of best material and final design, – tests and conclusions Procurement Policy:C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
