Microbolometer arrays offer a lower cost alternative for infrared detection compared to quantum detectors, both in terms of procurement and in lower-resource operation (e.g. uncooled operation) but at the expense of performance. Any improvements in microbolometer performance has the opportunity to broaden the application area of these detectors significantly. This activity aims to improve the radiometric performance of microbolometer arrays through the balanced optimisation of pixel time-constant and NEDT (sensitivity).The activity encompasses the following tasks :- Review and evaluate design options for improved performance of microbolometer arrays- Design and manufacture test detector batch incorporating design options- Characterize manufactured detectors, including radiation testingProcurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
