Clean space target a limitation of the environmental impact on Earth ecosystem from space activities. This limitation implies a reasonable understanding of the effect of the space activities on local ecosystem (i.e. ecotoxicology), as well as aiming ideally, for a biodegradation of residual waste. Although a large number of activities have already initiated to perform a proper Life Cycle assessment, this activity will investigate how the impact on deep sea ecosystem analysis can be performed .This activity considers the first stage: Phase 1: A systematic and scientifically based approach is required to first list and characterize the different deep-sea ecosystems. Based on this preliminary characterization, main synergies, key functions and boundaries conditions will be identified. Then, critical issues will be identified and scientific feasibility will be evaluated and a roadmap proposed. Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs). For additional information please go to EMITS news “Industrial Policy measures for non-primes, SMEs and RD entities in ESA programmes”.
