The main goal of this activity is to develop a Thematic Exploitation Platform (TEP) dedicated to Food Security in order to support sustainable agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries by providing access to data, processing tools and computing resources in a cloud environment. It shall facilitate collaborative research and benchmarking of methods, development of innovative Apps and services, as well as uptake of EO data in processes of end-users in the above-mentioned sectors. The activity shall design, implement and demonstrate a pre-operational Food Security TEP, and prepare and implement service pilots in collaboration with user communities. The main outputs will be a pre-operational Food Security TEP as well as products and services produced by, or delivered to, and assessed by end-users. The development will follow an agile approach where design and prototyping will be refined after feedback from users and ESA, in several quick iterations. The activity will be organised in two phases. Phase 1 will focus on the set-up of the TEP platform and the realisation of a Pilot project. Phase 2 will expand the TEP platform functionalities and will realise additional Pilot projects. Phase 2 is optional and conditioned to Phase 1 successive conclusion and budget availability to be confirmed at the ESA Council at ministerial level in late 2016.
