Objective of this activity is the development and demonstration of novel concepts to improve the in-band performance of channel filters. Targeted Improvements: 20% mass reduction. Description: Today, in order to meet very challenging filter in-band requirements, it is often necessary to increase the complexity of the hardware by adding more resonators and hence increase the mass of the hardware. Affected are in particular channel filters used in Diplexers and DEMUX but also self-standing channel filters where stringent roll-offs at the lower and upper band edge is needed. Hence for Ka-band applications, where a large number of such hardware is needed the mass impact can be considerable and alternative approaches are desirable. Recently is has been demonstrated that the losses in coupling apertures contribute significantly to observed in-band asymmetries and the roll-off at band edges. It has been shown that the careful choice and modification of coupling apertures is providing an additional freedom to control asymmetries and the roll-off but it has not yet been fully evaluated and exploited. Hence in this activity novel concepts to improve the in-band performance shall be evaluated and verified on hardware for Ka-band applications. Ka-band channel filters and a Ka-band diplexer BB shall be built and fully tested.
