Development of a high fidelity Magnetic Bearing Reaction Wheel (MBRW) using active magnetic bearings for all axes, yielding the following key perfomance improvements: .Very low mechanical disturbances during operation, 1-2 orders of magnitude reduction wrt ball bearings -Larger momentum MBRWs could avoid the need for hybrid AOCS system using, for example, expensive cold gas propulsion subsystems (EUCLID/EChO).. Larger momentum/torque capability improves the performance of large science missions (ATHENA).
