ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-11293

In 2021, the Agency and the ESA Slovakian Delegation consulted with representatives of the Directorate for Environmental Policy, EU and International Relations of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, and the State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Environmental Inspectorate to identify perceived opportunities to better leverage Earth Observation data and information for essential services related to Slovak Environmental monitoring and management. Two priority domains were agreed:A.Monitoring and management of Slovak wetland areas within the context of the “International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICTRR)” requirements and recommendationsB.Detection, monitoring and assessment of Land Cover Change (LCC) for identification of potential illegal activities in SlovakiaIt is expected that Slovakia will participate in ESA EO optional programmes from the end of 2022. To ensure that selected strategic objectives related to this participation are met, it is important that awareness and acceptance of satellite EO derived information is built up among Slovak public sector stakeholders responsible for a range of environmental monitoring, management and protection activities and that Slovak companies and institutions developing EO related capabilities develop their experience and competitiveness in the development of EO based applications addressing the priority concerns of these stakeholders as well as stakeholders in the wider Central European area having similar requirements and priorities and working on related domains. These activities shall further prepare Slovak entities for participation future EO Regional initiatives. Thus, it is expected that the programme of work will involve use of established metrics relevant to existing Central European environmental initiatives. Use of common monitoring metrics is a provision for progressive build-up of support between Governmental Slovak entities cooperating with one another and other regional partners in Central European States.
