The objective of the activity is to design, manufacture and test an end-to-end envelope tracking SSPA prototype. The prototype willinclude a digital implementation of critical envelope tracking/class-G functions including predistortion and an analogue implementation of monolithically integrated DC-DC converter, modulator and RF high power amplifier.Targeted Improvements: At least 10% improvement in the overall SSPA efficiency (calculated including the digital circuits) in comparison to current SSPA technology.Description: Envelope tracking amplifiers have been adopted in many terrestrial radio systems and commercial products are available. At thesame time, the role of SatCom in the 5G Era is gradually increasing and hybrid/integrated satellite-terrestrial networks are emerging. Higher order modulation schemes are foreseen for those networks, however current technology only offers poor SSPA efficiency forthe needed back-off operation. This activity will develop and test envelope tracking technology to achieve high efficiency at back-off in comparison to state of the art today and with acceptable out of band spurious performance. This will enable the use of higher order modulation schemes at acceptable power consumption. An envelope tracking SSPA prototype in L- or S-band will be designed, manufactured and tested.
