The objective is this research program is the development of a standardized methodology to perform thermal imaging during TB/TV spacecraft testing, fully traceable to SI. The outcome of the study could also be extended, at a later stage, to in-flight thermal imaging. The methodology shall represent a validated, alternative and complementary method to contact thermometry, with demonstrated traceability to ITS-90, to be used during spacecraft TB-TV testing. The latter shall be achieved by:- Assessing the gap of the existing thermal imaging methodology, data processing and uncertainty computation with respect to a traceable measurement, starting from aerospace industry, but not limited to it;- Assessing the calibration process of thermal imagers and its traceability to ITS-90;-Assessing the state-of-the-art methods to characterize the BRDF of materials, and estimating the corresponding uncertainty;- Assessing the state-of-the-art methods to calibrate infrared (IR) radiation sources or in general light sources used as sun simulation devices, and proposing a calibration method;Defining a generalized methodology and propose a way forward for the standardization ofcontactless thermal measurement of spacecrafts in TB-TV conditions traceable to ITS-90 by means of a IEC17025 accreditation. All the above shall be confirmed by verification for a given representative case(s), to be proposed in the frame of this study.
