ESA operates a network of ground stations called ESTRACK to support its mission operations. After a major restructuring ESTRACK consists today of 7 stations that host 9 terminals. These consist of three Deep Space Stations at Cebreros (Spain) with terminal 35m CEB-1, Malargüe (Argentina), with terminal 35m MLG-1, New Norcia (Western Australia), with terminals 35m NNO-1 and 4.5m NNO-2; and theNear Earth Stations in Kiruna (Sweden) with terminals 15m KIR-1 and 13m KIR-2, Kourou (French Guiana) with terminal 15m KRU-1, Redu(Belgium) with terminal 15m RED-1 and Santa Maria of the Azores (Portugal) with terminal 5.5m SMA-1. In addition ESTRACK owns a smallX-band terminal, which as a customer furnished item is installed in Malindi (Kenya) as 2m MAL-X.Two monitoring and control (MC) systems are currently in operations in ESTRACK. The STC2 (Station Computer 2), with the GSTS (Ground Station Tailoring System), isinuse for most of the ESTRACK ground stations; the CSMC (Central System for Monitoring and Control) is deployed in Kiruna. In operations since the late 90s, both systems face obsolescence issues, and need to be replaced. The next generation ground station MC system, called Ground Station Monitoring and Control based on Common Core software (GSMC-CC), will be based on re-usable software infrastructure frameworks:· Software components from the European Ground Systems Common Core (EGS-CC)·Software components from the European Ground Operations System Common Core (EGOS-CC), Operations Preparation Environment (OPEN) and EGOS User Desktop (EUD).Like itspredecessors systems, the purpose of the GSMC-CC system is to monitor and control (MC) the various equipment installed in the ESTRACK ground stations in order to ensure local (i.e. from the ground station) and remote (i.e. from ESOC) operations. The system isindependent of any specific ground station and spacecraft mission; by means of tailoring of its configuration data information it can be customised for the specific ground station and the ground station services supporting specific spacecraft missions. This system consists, therefore, of two main elements: GSMC-CC, the operations system responsible for the monitoring and control of the ESTRACKground stations; based on EGS-CC and EUD. OPEN-S, its tailoring preparation tool (S for ground Station); based on OPEN and EUD.The objective of the activity is to develop and deploy one unique Ground Station Monitoring and Control System in ESTRACK groundstations, addressing the obsolescence of the current systems, retaining the operational knowledge embedded in the configuration andtailoring data of the current systems and especially in the STC2 tailoring data. Todays MC solution relies on validated operational tailoring data for ground stations and spacecraft. It is crucial for the migration to retain this tailoring data and the associated operational know-how. The Station Tailoring Language (STL) used in STC2 tailoring will be retained.
