The overarching objective of this activity is to consolidate and improve the understanding and modelling of coastal processes and physics responsible for sea level changes on various temporal/spatial scales. In practice, this study shall combine several elements such as to propose and develop an approach to estimate a consistent dynamic topography at tide gauges, coastal areas, and open ocean, to validate the approach in well-surveyed areas where dynamic topography can be determined at tide gauges, and to connect a globalset of tide gauges by extending the approach also to areas which are poorly-surveyed. The activity shall also estimate the impact that the new global gravity fields (in particular GOCE) have made on this and provide an outlook how the approach could be further improved in the future using improved coastal altimetry algorithms and altimetric SAR techniques.
