DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENTRY AND DESCENT INSTRUMENT SENSOR SUITE FOR ICE GIANT ENTRIES – EXPRO PLUS
7, July 2022

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-11400
Open Date: 04/07/2022 11:16 CEST
Closing Date: 12/09/2022 13:00 CEST

This activity will pre-develop a set of aerothermodynamics instruments for the real-time detection of the entry scenario with respect to convective and radiative fluxes as well as the plasma composition, pressure, density, and temperature within the hydrogen/Helium Methane atmospheric gases. Besides the instrumenting the TPS material, the focus will be to have a better understanding of state of the shock layer, boundary layer and potentially their radiative environment. Beyond the classic sensors, the development and bread boarding and testing of spectrometers, radiometers, recession sensors in a relevant H2/H3/CH4 environment are foreseen. The experimental test will be rebuild by CFD analysis and extrapolated.
