The first objective of this activity is to identify the Earth Observation (EO) use cases of a seamless low-latency low bit rate network, enabled by the proliferation Internet of Things (IoT) nodes in an EO system composed of multiple assets both in space and on ground. This includes further definition of the requirements for those EO use cases, and assessing their applicability with current and future standards and networks from both New Space and institutional actors. This communication capability is expected to complement the growing on-board processing capability and support further autonomy in heterogeneous EO systems. A system of system and Concept of Operations (ConOps) enveloping both ground (satellite operators, service provider, in-situ Sensors like Buoys, Ground stations, etc.) and space nodes (LEO EO satellites from Institutional and New Space , LEO and GEO relay satellites, etc.) shall be established. Feasibility shall be confirmed though simulations and link budgets. Implementation, architecture and security aspects shall be considered for all nodes of the systems in the identified configurations. Based on the identified use cases associated architecture, ConOps as well as technology and IoT-for-space standardizations roadmaps will be prepared for their development in future activities. In addition, the contractor shall support the Agency in discussions with international partners in the frame of Inter Agency Operation Advisory Group (ioag.org) and in workshops with other stakeholders.
