AURORAL OVAL MONITORING MISSION REORIENTATION PHASE A
12, January 2022

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-11106
Open Date: 11/01/2022 15:43 CEST
Closing Date: 23/02/2022 13:00 CEST

This activity targets a reorientation of the Phase A study of an auroral oval observation mission for Space Weather monitoring. This mission would be part of the Distributed Space weather Sensor System (D3S), designed to provide measurements representing the status of the space environment in the vicinity of the Earth and impacts of the solar activity into this environment for operational space weather services. The targeted mission concept will provide auroral observations compliant to the D3S measurement requirements, verified by performance analysis. The driving requirements for the mission are the regular, ideally continuous, observation of the auroral oval in the polar regions, the required low latency of the observation data, and an operational mission lifetime of three to five years in the likely harsh radiation environment of the applicable orbits. The procurement will be open competition to all industrial entities, ensuring an open competitive approach preparing further steps. Parallel contracts are foreseen in case of competitive complementary proposals. Furthermore, the participation of SME’s will be encouraged.
