This AtmosRO-3 call represents a number of research opportunities in relation to the ESA Atmosphere Science Cluster. It is intendedto support studies aimed at exploring, developing and validating innovative products and applications and exploiting the novel nature of Aeolus data. Two types of actions will be supported: 1) Aeolus+ Aerosols, which responds to the need to further investigate alternative methods, algorithms and products to retrieve aerosol information from Aeolus. The development and validation of novel retrieval methods in view of creating products also in synergy with other satellite datasets is another focus. 2) Aeolus+ Processes is aimed at exploiting Aeolus data in the sense of supporting process studies. A non-exhaustive list of examples is: maximize Aeolus L2Bwind impact in global and/or regional models; contribute to the predictability of extreme weather events; use Aeolus data for atmospheric process and coupled model studies; study boundary layer processes though synergetic use of Aeolus observations with ground-based and airborne observations and/or (nested) boundary layer models.
