This ITT concerns the Phase-A industrial system study for the Cosmic Vision L2 mission candidate, ATHENA (large X-ray telescope operating at Lagrange Point 2). This mission is targeted for the Cosmic Vision L2 flight opportunity in 2028. The industrial system study will consist of parallel contracts with a duration of 30 months and will cover the following objectives: – The technical definition of the spacecraft, including: design, modelling, concept of operations; – Contribution to the preliminary definition of spacecraft interfaces to the X-IFU and WFI instruments, Operational Ground Segment, Launch Segment, and Mirror Modules; – The identificationand consolidation of critical spacecraft technology activities and pre-developments to be implemented for securing the 2028 launch slot; – The spacecraft risk analysis including mitigation options; – The consolidation of the spacecraft requirements and their decomposition down to the 2nd-tier of the Product Tree (spacecraft subsystem level); – The preliminary identification of potential subcontractors in the implementation phase for the spacecraft development; – The preliminary development and verification plan, and the elaboration of a baseline spacecraft development schedule (including payload constraints); – The programmatic assessments, includingrisk analysis and industrial costs for the various options; – Support of the Preliminary Requirements Review (PRR).
