E2C3-009 – EL3 DUAL GAIN K-BAND ANTENNA SUB-SYSTEM
28, April 2021

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-10602
Open Date: 17/03/2021 00:00 CET
Closing Date: 12/05/2021 13:00 CEST

Within the context of lunar exploration, high data rate links become imperative to support the high data volume produced by payloads such as cameras, RADAR, LIDAR, radio telescope and even the future long duration lunar manned missions. The activity aims at the development of a dual gain antenna that can switch between a narrower and a broader beam and the respective antenna pointing mechanism (APM). The activity shall also evaluate the need of a closed tracking loop during lunar EDL, perform a trade-off on the potentialsolutions and implement the functionalities in the antenna and APM design deemed necessary. The activity shall be divided in two phases, and include at least the following tasks: Phase 1: – Requirements specification- Trade-off between the different solutions to achieve the dual gain feature, the pointing needs and closed loop tracking capabilities taking into account the impacts at sub-system and system levels- Detailed design of the integrated elegant breadboardPhase 2 : – Manufacturing of an elegant integrated breadboard of the antenna and antenna pointing mechanism- Manufacturing of EGSE required for the functional testing- Functional testingof the elegant breadboard of the antenna and antenna pointing mechanism. Testing of critical components in relevant environment.-Performance testing of the integrated elegant breadboard of the antenna and its pointing mechanism.
