The European Space Agency (ESA) operates a network of S/X and Ka-band antennas for Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) operations of different categories of spacecraft. The Ground Systems Engineering Department (HSO-G) in ESA Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations (D/HSO), located at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), is responsible for the design, development and procurement of the ground station infrastructure required to operate ESA satellites, including the above mentioned antennas and its associated equipment. The currently used frequency bands for satellite operations are 2025-2120 MHz, 7145-7235 MHz and 34200-34700 MHz for uplinks, and 2200-2300 MHz, 8400-8500 MHz and 31800-32300 for downlinks. The RF signals shall be converted to/from an IF frequency by means of frequency converters. Five different converters are employed on ESA ground stations: S band up and down converters, X band up and down converters, Ka band up and down converters and L band down converter . The X band frequency converters presentlydeployed in the ESA ground stations are obsolete and some replacements very difficult or impossible to be found. Manufacturing of new units is no more possible due to this obsolescence. New X band up and down frequency converters shall be developed for the new installations and to replace the oldest equipments. The purpose of this activity to design and develop new Deep Space X band up and down frequency converters, including the manufacturing of production units of each converter.
