The ground segment infrastructure is made up of components. In this context, component refers to individual pieces of infrastructure (typically a computer programme or collection of computer programmes operating together) that provide a specific functionality, has published and standardised interfaces and can be operated in standalone mode (eventually using test doubles to exchange data through the interfaces). The Ground Segment infrastructure has been designed based on three different interfacing layers: the business logic, which relies on a CORBA interface, the presentation layer (which is based on Java-SWT) and the automation layer (based on XML messages).
