Cryosphere Virtual LabThe objective of this ITT is to develop, test and demonstrate a prototype Cryosphere Virtual Laboratory (CVL) as a community open science tool, where EO satellite data and derived products can be accessed, visualized, processed, shared andvalidated. In order to achieve this objective, the tool shall provide access and facilitate sharing of relevant space and non-spacedata (aerial, UAV, coastal radar, in-situ etc.). Following an Open Science approach, the CVL shall mainly be designed to support scientist to access and share EO data, high-level products, in-situ data, and open source code (algorithms, models) to carry out scientific studies and projects, sharing results, knowledge and resources. The activity shall take advantage of recent state of the art advances in ICT, cloud computing and storage, advanced visualization technology, etc. The activity is part of an ESA-EC/RTD collaboration on arctic and polar research and a high level of coordination with other ESA and EC funded on-going and future activities is expected. The geographical scope of the CVL will cover both the Arctic and Antarctic regions and shall expand to all areas of research (e.g., ocean-sea-ice-atmosphere interactions, ice sheet mass balance, sea ice, snow, permafrost and frozen soils, glaciers, etc.) supporting both earth sciences and science needs expressed by other user communities (governmental, industry, NGOs etc). Special attention shall be given to the Svalbard island and archipelago as a key site for in-situ data collection.
