Comet Interceptor is an ESA Science mission and will involve a small planetary spacecraft and two probes, working together to perform multi-point measurements of a Dynamically New Comet or an interstellar body in a fly-by scenario. A number of Member States will be delivering the scientific instruments to be integrated in the main spacecraft (indicated as spacecraft A) and in the probe under ESA responsibility (indicated as probe B2). JAXA is an international partner, contributing to the mission with the provision of a second probe (indicated as probe B1), also to be integrated on spacecraft A. Both probes will be carried by the main spacecraft and released shortly before the comet encounter, with their data relayed back to Earth via spacecraft A. ESA is the Mission Architect, in charge of spacecraft A and probe B2 procurement and development, of the procurement of the launch services and of both mission and science operations.
