The vision of ESA Business Applications is to improve the lives of people on Earth through Space. Space assets can provide excellent opportunities for enabling new services or making innovative improvements in existing services. ESA Business Applications is focussed on realising these opportunities by enabling the short-term commercialisation and application of space data and technology. It does this through supporting the development of customised, operational services for a wide range of users where different (space and terrestrial) systems are combined in response to satisfying actual user needs. ESA Business Applications places strong emphasis on sustainable applications and service business cases, where close partnerships with customers and end-users foster new and wider utilisation of existing space capacity and capability. The resulting services rely on the most appropriate technologies, drawn from space systems and terrestrial / in-situ systems, integrated into a value chain and service delivery model to best meet the user needs. For the purposes of ESA Business Applications, services need to make use of at least one type of space asset (e.g. Earth Observation, Telecommunication, Navigation and Human Space Flight technologies) together with complementary non-space systems. The technologies involved should be mature enough so that the service or product can be brought to market in the short term. Since the start of 2019, ESA Business Applications has been integrated with ESAs Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Office (TTPO) to create ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) that also coordinates a network of Business Incubation Centres (BICs) and Innovation Partners across Europe. In order to support the instigation of new activities for ESA Business Applications at a national level, the Agency has established a network of Ambassador Platforms (APs) across various Member States. In the UK, a network of 5 Regional Ambassadors has been established, supported by an overall Coordinator and a Business Developer. This ITT covers the activities to be executed by the RAP for the Midlands and North-East England.
