This Activity aims at contributing to the new ESA Black Sea and Danube Initiative, with the ultimate goal to foster a coordinated approach to advance EO-based science, novel applications and data exploitation infrastructures serving the specific needs of the Black Sea and Danube basin community through a strong collaboration among institutions and related national and EU programmes. The Black Sea and Danube+ (BD+) ITT addresses the science component of the initiative. In particular, this is the first of a series of ESAscience actions aiming at promoting the advance of EO science and research in the region by focusing on some of the scientific priorities of regional scientific projects such as the Black Sea oceanographic community and the Pannex programme.BD+ will focus on the following Themes:·Theme 1: Black Sea+ Ocean Science·Theme 4: Danube+ Drought Early Warning;Within this Activity, ESA plans to support two independent projects (each addressing one of the above themes). In this context, BD+ aims at supporting the scientific community of Member States in the Black Sea and Danube Basin region to carry out leading edge research activities to advance the use of ESA and non-ESA EO missions towards the achievement of major scientific challenges identified for the next decade at the Black Sea from Space Workshop and by the PannEx community. It is expected that the resulting activities shall clearly demonstrate a contribution and complementarity to existing related projects and activities in the region as well as a close link and involvement ofexisting scientific networks and institutions in the Black Sea.
