The objectives of this activity are: 1. To design, manufacture, procure and assembly a self-standing and autonomous ground supportequipment, comprising cloud, aerosol and turbulence monitoring (i.e., CATM GSE).2. To install and commission CATM GSEs at selectedground locations in ESA member states or in their vicinity.3. To continuously record local cloud / aerosol information and atmospheric turbulence conditions using CATM GSEs for a sufficiently long temporal period (> 24 months).4. To correlate the local ground measurements from CATM GSEs with data available from other sources of cloud coverage and atmospheric conditions (e.g., MSG, MODIS, local meteorological sites).Overall, the main objective is to improve knowledge of the optical link availability for selected opticalground station locations and to carry out a long-term validation of the used optical link availability prediction methods.
