This AtmosRO-1 activity aims at developing new datasets, methods and applications for atmospheric research. Potential novel scientific developments and applications may emerge from the exploitation of existing atmospheric satellite missions, developments in modelling of the physics and chemistry of atmospheric traces gases, but also the exploitation of new capabilities from measuring atmospheric constituents from ground. The AtmosRO-1 activities are embedded in the recently established ESA Atmosphere Science Cluster. Through this cluster, ESA aims at supporting advanced research, networking, collaborative research, and fostering international collaboration in Atmospheric science. This AtmosRO-1 project addresses two themes in atmospheric composition and focuses on Ozone Recovery (O3R) and Air Quality (AQ). In O3R signs of slow recovery of the stratospheric ozone layer shall be studied and research on the variety of related traces gases performed togehter with their representation in model simulations. In AQ new measurement capabilites for air quality shall be investigated and latest model developments taken into account to provide new insights in the analysis of small scale air polution scenarios, but as well long-term trends.
