Functional System Simulation has become a key activity supporting the verification and validation of specification, design, implementation and operations of space systems during different stages of the development lifecycle. Functional System Simulation is done and supported by the usage of so-called System-level Simulation Facilities (e.g. Software Validation Facility, System Concept Simulator, Assembly Integration and Verification facilities etc.). These facilities are built-up, amongst others, using Simulation Models being an executable representation of a real world system. The development and utilisation of System-level Simulation Facilities requires different tasks to be performed. These tasks are supported by modelling- and simulation components and a chain of tools, and are to some extent done in an automated manner.Within these contexts a number of challenges must be dealt with. The following is anon-exhaustive list of often seen difficulties: Linkage of the information needed for the Simulation Models and Test to the (Model-Based) System Engineering data, Linkage of the information needed for the Simulation Model and Test to the different engineering discipline specific information. Timely execution of the tests and consistency, Timely production and consistency of the artefacts (e.g. Test Reports Increasing amount of information e.g. data (including test-results), It is considered that the implementationand use of emerging technologies, like Semantic Data Modelling, Augmented/Virtual Reality, AI and Machine Learning, Big Data, etc. can become an enabler in this field. The objective of this activity is to develop an Advanced Test Management System that has higher level of (computer/artificial) intelligence compared to current systems and is fully integrated with system engineering tools toimprove the testing quality and reduce testing time.Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required. For additional information please go to EMITS news “Industrial Policy measures fornon-primes, SMEs and RD entities in ESA programmes”.
