The activity will establish an advanced Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) concept for active debris removal for the baselined capturing technologies. The activity will include the preparation of a simulation environment (model in the loop) for verification of feasibility from a GNC perspective. This activity will assess scenarios for active debris removal stemming from the baselined capturing technologies and derive a preliminary, advanced guidance and control concept for the phasing, approach, fly around, capture and deorbitation phase (TRL 3). This will include trade-offs concerning the required sensors as well as actuator and the architecturaldesign. Following the assessment of attitude and positioning requirements, the activity will continue with algorithms analysis and evaluation for image recognition, pose identification, path planning and GNC at large. The activity will include the preparation of a simulation environment (model in the loop) for verification of feasibility from a GNC perspective. Particular emphasis will be placed on the verification of the approach towards a target in low earth orbit, precise position and attitude matching, depending on the baselined ADR scenarios, the GNC functions for safe capturing, and the control of the coupled system during de-orbitation.
